God Will Do The Rest

ReConnect Graphic Covers (8).png

I am responsible for making sure that we have an author scheduled each week for the reflection in the ReConnect. Every once in a while a week will slip by where I missed scheduling someone...shocker, I know! The "Plan B" in this scenario often times is to try to fill in as the ReConnect author of the week. This isn't a task that, as Kyle would say, makes my socks roll up and down. But, I will admit that my socks are now rollin'. Here's why.

In the sermon, Kyle said, in reference to what Jesus remarked in Matthew 17:20, that Jesus wasn't rebuking the disciples. He went on to mention that maybe what Jesus was trying to do instead was, "raise the horizon on what we think is possible".

I began to reflect a bit about what that might mean for me. In doing so, I recognized a few places in my life where the horizon on what I think is possible through prayer is lightyears away from moving mountains. I have a bit of cognitive dissonance. I have an unwavering faith, in this season, in the fact that nothing is impossible through Christ. However, I also carry a heavy doubt that my prayer will always just be a soft spoken hope or aspiration that I am just letting Jesus hear about.

I have so many people in my life where I have categorized them as "it's never gonna happen". I have totally lost sight of the horizon of what Jesus can do for these people through prayer and fasting. I admit that my faith for this bucket of people to come to know Jesus is as small, if not smaller, than a mustard seed!

So, where's the good news? What made my socks roll up and down? .

First, Matthew 7:7-8, “Keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened."

Second, in a post by Zach Byler he reminds us that "...When communicating the gospel, you can do the same - do it with love, be persuasive, and let God do the rest."

This scripture and quote have been reminders that Jesus is doing the heavy lifting here. My faith for what God is going to do through our church, in our community in this season is on the rise. These reminders have lifted up the horizon, and by recognizing that all we're called to do, in regards to giving that bucket of people an opportunity to see, hear and respond to the Gospel, is to keep on asking, seeking and knocking and God will do the rest!
